Ultra Rare Aaron Judge Signed Yankees Card Breaks Mike Trout Price, What's the New Record?
A 2013 Aaron Judge card has set a new record for most expensive baseball card sold in the 21st century with a price of $5.2 million.
Fanatics Collect announced the sale of the 2013 Aaron Judge Bowman Chrome Draft Superfractor one-of-one signed card sold, making the New York Yankees star one of four MLB players to have a card go for at least $5 million.
Per ESPN's Dan Hajducky, the previous modern-era record sale price for a baseball card was the 2009 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospects Superfractor card signed by Mike Trout that went for $3.936 million in 2020.
"We're incredibly honored to have brokered this record-breaking deal and to be part of such a momentous moment in hobby history," Fanatics Collect said in a statement (h/t Hajducky). "As a company, we value our deep relationships with our collectors, with both their trust and our expertise allowing us to continue to help set sale records in the months and years to come."
Judge is seventh athlete in all sports to have a card sell for at least $5 million, joining a list that includes Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Mickey Mantle.
Judge had not yet played his first full season in professional baseball when the card was originally released in November 2013. He was selected by the Yankees with the No. 32 pick in the 2013 draft during his junior year at Fresno State.
The Yankees received the pick as compensation after Nick Swisher signed with Cleveland as a free agent in December 2012.
Per The Athletic's Larry Holder, the card previously sold for $324,000 at auction in May 2022. Judge has since gone on to win three AL MVP awards since that time, while also setting a new AL single-season record with 62 homers during the 2022 campaign.
