Kelly Oubre Jr. Reacts to Bam Adebayo's 83-Point Game, Says Joel Embiid 'Did It In 3 Quarters'
Philadelphia 76ers forward Kelly Oubre Jr. apparently feels Bam Adebayo's 83-point Tuesday night outing for the Miami Heat pales in comparison to the historic 70-point game Joel Embiid posted for the Sixers in January 2024.
Oubre compared the two games after Adebayo put up 83 points against the Washington Wizards to pass Kobe Bryant for the second-highest single-game scoring total in NBA history.
"It's definitely legendary, the box score, the number, and shoutout to Bam... I'm kind of salty that he bested Kobe, he's one of my favorite players for sure," Oubre said Tuesday night.
"But I'mma just say this, man: Joel did it efficiently, and he did it in three quarters."
Adebayo set the NBA records for both free throws attempted and made while playing 42 minutes in the Heat's victory.
The Heat made an effort to draw fouls down the stretch for Adebayo, who finished the game having shot 20-for-43 from the field, 7-for-22 from deep and 36-for-43 from the line.
He posted his 82nd and 83rd points to surpass Bryant's personal best of 81 on a pair of free throws with just over one minute remaining in the fourth quarter.
Embiid's highest-scoring game took place on Jan. 22, 2024 during a Sixers win over the visiting San Antonio Spurs.
He racked up 70 points in 36 minutes while shooting 24-for-41 from the field, 1-for-2 from deep and 21-for-23 from the foul line.
The Sixers didn't make a similar push to help Embiid rack up points down the stretch of that win. He played just five minutes of the fourth quarter before sitting out the end of the victory.
That was still a historic night for Embiid, who broke Wilt Chamberlain's single-game scoring record for the Sixers while becoming the first player in NBA history to post a stat line of 70 points, 18 rebounds and five assists.
The NBA's all-time single-game scoring record is still held by Chamberlain, who posted 100 points in a 1962 game with the Philadelphia 76ers.
