Bam Adebayo Talks 'Surreal Moment' Passing Kobe Bryant, Making NBA History with 83-Point Game

Andrew PetersMar 10, 2026

Bam Adebayo made history on Tuesday, dropping 83 points to surpass Kobe Bryant's previous mark for the second-most points in a single game in NBA history.

Expressing his thoughts after the game, Adebayo called it a "surreal moment" to be mentioned in the same conversation as the late Bryant.

"To me, it's wondering what he would say," Adebayo told reporters. "...To be 83 and you pass him, in my mind it's like, what would he say to me. I've always wanted to have a conversation with him. He'd probably say to me, 'Do it again.' But just a surreal moment being in the company with someone you idolized growing up."

Only three players have scored 80-plus points in a game: Adebayo, Bryant and Wilt Chamberlain, whose 100 points still hold the record for the most points in a game. Adebayo hit 20 of his 43 shots from the field and made a record-breaking 36 free throws in the 150-129 win over the Washington Wizards.

For the 28-year-old Adebayo, Bryant's 81-point night in 2006 was viewed as the best scoring display of its generation. Now, Adebayo has his own historic performance like Bryant's.
