Trae Young Expects 'Oh S--t Moments' From Wizards Teammates After Debut vs. Jazz
The Trae Young era has begun in Washington.
The star point guard made his debut for the Wizards against the Utah Jazz on Thursday. Afterwards, Young admitted that there will likely be a learning curve for him and his new teammates.
"I'm learning these guys and they're getting to learn me too," Young told reporters. "I feel like there's gonna be times that they have some oh s--t moments, like where I'm wide open, and they get the ball when they're not expecting it. They got to play 20 minutes with me tonight, this is just a little taste of what we get to do over the next games coming up."
He added that he's looking forward to seeing what lies ahead for the young team.
"I definitely felt the energy tonight just from all the fans... That's what I want here," he told reporters. "Like, I want the fans to feel involved, to feel involved and part of our winning in the future, but even now. Being a part of the growth and being a part of the young guys getting better, cause this is the time that you take the bumps and bruises and learn the game in the NBA... This is a special group, and I really believe in the potential that we got with all the young guys and the future we got here"
Young posted 12 points and six assists in his debut after being traded from the Atlanta Hawks, though he played just 19 minutes. The Wizards lost 122-112, marking their seventh consecutive loss.
While Washington is still deep in a rebuild, fans at least have something to look forward to with Young and his new co-star, Anthony Davis. The Wizards also have an exciting young core with players like Alex Sarr and Kyshawn George.
