James entered the night with 15,835 field goals, two shy of NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The four-time NBA MVP got the three he needed in the first quarter off a layup, a dunk and then a baseline jumper.

Many people congratulated James after his new record, including Lakers legend and Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson.

To put James' record in greater perspective, he has more than 2,300 made field goals than the list's third-place person, Karl Malone. Kevin Durant is second on the active player list with 11,067 made field goals.

The 41-year-old James is still putting up numbers on a nightly basis, averaging 21.6 points on 50.2 percent shooting, 7.0 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game over 33.1 minutes per night entering Thursday for the 37-24 Lakers, who sit sixth in the Western Conference.

James is somehow still amassing records in his 23rd NBA season. His incredible resume already includes 22 All-NBA teams, three Olympic gold medals, four NBA championships and four NBA Finals MVP awards, among other accolades. He is notably the NBA's all-time leader in points and minutes.

The next record to fall will be most games played with six more contests. That'll put him at 1,612, one more than former NBA center Robert Parish.
