Anthony Davis Injury Update Given by Wizards, Latest on Star's Rehab, Recovery Timeline

Doric SamMar 5, 2026

Washington Wizards star big man Anthony Davis reportedly still has a chance to return to the court before the end of the 2025-26 season.

According to ESPN's Marc J. Spears, the Wizards said that Davis continues to progress as expected in his recovery from ligament damage in his left hand and has been cleared to begin limited individual on-court basketball activities. He will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

Davis was sent to the Wizards from the Dallas Mavericks at last month's trade deadline. He's been sidelined since injuring his left hand on Jan. 8. He only played 20 games for the Mavs while dealing with multiple injuries throughout the year, and he averaged 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.1 steals in his brief time on the court.

At 16-45, the Wizards don't have much to play for this season, so it remains possible that Davis could be shut down for the remainder of the year. However, Thursday's news is a positive sign that he's working to get back to full strength for his new team.

It's not all doom and gloom in Washington, as the team announced that star point guard Trae Young will make his Wizards debut in Thursday's game against the Utah Jazz (18-44). Young was acquired from the Atlanta Hawks in January and hasn't played since Dec. 27 due to MCL and quad injuries in his right leg.

When the Wizards get both Davis and Young back on the court together, they will have a duo capable of competing with the best in the Eastern Conference and ending Washington's perpetual rebuild.
