Tyus Jones, Nuggets Agree to Contract in NBA FA After PG Waived By Mavs, Updated Depth Chart
The Denver Nuggets have added some depth to their backcourt as they look to finish the regular season strong.
Per ESPN's Shams Charania, the Nuggets signed veteran point guard Tyus Jones after he was waived by the Dallas Mavericks.
Here's a look at Denver's updated depth chart.
2025-26 Denver Nuggets Depth Chart
- PG: Jamal Murray, Tyus Jones, Jalen Pickett
- SG: Christian Braun, Bruce Brown
- SF: Julian Strawther, Tim Hardaway Jr.
- PF: Cameron Johnson, Spencer Jones
- C: Nikola Jokić, Jonas Valančiūnas, Zeke Nnaji
Jones, who is now in his 11th NBA season, spent the first four years of his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves before a four-year stint with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Since his Memphis exit in 2023, he's been with the Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns, Orlando Magic and Mavs.
The Magic traded Jones to the Charlotte Hornets ahead of the trade deadline, but he was sent to Dallas the following day. Ultimately, he played just eight games with the Mavs before he was waived to create space for the team to sign Ryan Nembhard to a two-year deal.
The 29-year-old Jones is putting up 7.3 points and 4.3 assists per game this year, having mostly played a bench role in his previous stops in Orlando and Dallas. He'll presumably continue to come off the bench in Denver behind star point guard Jamal Murray, but he'll likely be the starter if Murray were to suffer an injury.
Behind standout seasons from Nikola Jokić and Murray, the Nuggets are currently sitting in fifth place in the Western Conference at 37-24. Denver seems more than capable of making another Finals run as long as it stays healthy, adding some depth to the backcourt should only help.
