Trae Young's Wizards Debut Date Revealed Amid Injury Rehab After Hawks Deadline Trade

The Washington Wizards' new point guard is set to make his debut this week.

Per ESPN's Shams Charania, Trae Young will play his first game for the Wizards this Thursday against the Utah Jazz at home.

Young confirmed the report on social media, and head coach Brian Keefe later told reporters that Young would play 17 to 20 minutes on Thursday.

The Atlanta Hawks sent Young to the Wizards a few weeks ahead of the trade deadline in return for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, ending his seven-and-a-half-year tenure with the team.

Young has played just 10 games this season, missing all of November before returning briefly in December. He has not played since Dec. 27 because of MCL and quad injuries.

The 27-year-old is putting up 19.3 points and 8.9 assists per game this year, marking his worst statistical season since his rookie campaign.

There was some speculation that Young would sit out the remainder of the season as the Wizards look to protect their draft position, but he'll ultimately suit up this year.

Once on the court, he might not play significant minutes. Josh Robbins of The Athletic noted in January that he'd be "surprised" if Young is logging a lot of time since Washington is fully focused on the future. The Wizards lose their first-round pick if it's outside of the top eight, so they have every reason to try to improve their draft lottery odds.

Washington is currently in 13th place in the East at 16-43. The Wizards' other newest star, Anthony Davis, is expected to miss the remainder of the year, so fans will likely have to wait to see the pairing of him and Young.
