Latest Steelers Trade Rumors on Pat Freiermuth with 'At Least 6 Teams' Interested as Landing Spot
The Pittsburgh Steelers shouldn't have much trouble trading Pat Freiermuth if they're prepared to move on from the veteran tight end.
The Athletic's Mike DeFabo reported Monday that "at least six teams would be interested" in pursuing Freiermuth. Pittsburgh, however, maintains that he isn't available.
The 27-year-old averaged career lows in catches (2.4) and yards (28.6) per game in 2025. He was also on the field for just 51 percent of the Steelers' offensive snaps.

NFL Not Investigating Mike Vrabel
The dip in Freiermuth's usage coincided with the arrival of 2024 Pro Bowler Jonnu Smith. Smith similarly didn't post big numbers (38 receptions for 222 yards and two touchdowns), but he ate into Freiermuth's targets and playing time.
The Steelers hired a new head coach (Mike McCarthy) and offensive coordinator (Brian Angelichio) this offseason. They could envision utilizing Freiermuth much differently.
But the outside interest in him reflects the fact Pittsburgh may have to deal one of its notable tight ends.
Freiermuth ($12.1 million) and Smith ($12 million) rank eighth and ninth, respectively in average salary at the position. The Steelers have the most expensive tight end room in the NFL.
Beyond the financial logistics, the two experienced pass-catchers might not love the idea of a time share for the second successive season. Smith in particular will want to make a strong impression on the field given he's a free agent next spring.
Offensive sets with two tight ends can be effective, but showcasing both players in a big way is tough. Either somebody has to sacrifice, or a roughly equal split means neither stands out. The latter was pretty much true for Freiermuth and Smith.
A trade would remove one possible headache for McCarthy as he lays out his offensive scheme.
