NFL Rumors Link Jets to Minkah Fitzpatrick, Bryan Cook, More Ahead of 2026 Free Agency
The New York Jets are known to be seeking defensive improvements this offseason, and a veteran from one of their biggest rivals reportedly could be among their top targets.
ESPN's Rich Cimini reported that the Jets are expected to be "aggressive" on the defensive side of the ball in free agency, and "one name to watch" for the team's offseason pursuits is Miami Dolphins safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, who "reportedly is available for trade." Newly hired Jets defensive coordinator Brian Duker has familiarity with Fitzpatrick after previously serving as the Dolphins' passing-game coordinator.
The safety position is one of New York's biggest holes to fill this offseason, and Fitzpatrick would be an instant upgrade. The five-time Pro Bowler racked up 82 total tackles, six passes defended, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble, a sack and an interception across 14 games in 2025.

In addition to Fitzpatrick, Cimini named a crop of veterans that the Jets are expected to be targeting over the next few weeks.
"Among the players they're considering are safeties Bryan Cook (Kansas City Chiefs) and Nick Cross (Indianapolis Colts), linebacker Alex Anzalone (Lions) and defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad (Lions), among others, according to people familiar with their thinking," Cimini stated.
The Jets ranked 31st in the NFL with 29.6 points allowed per game last season, so they're going to need all the help they can get as they continue their rebuild under head coach Aaron Glenn.
