"Garagiola talked about how he traded his 1954 Giants uniform, which is a championship season, as part of the package for this one," Heritage's director of sports auctions, Chris Ivy, told The Athletic's Larry Holder. "He loved owning it and owned it for a long time. It's a nice, strong quality example. It's got a little bit of paper loss on the back, but I think that accounts for its survival. This latest sale came a little over a week after a recently discovered Wagner card sold for over $5 million:
Wagner, a Hall of Famer, hit .328 in 21 MLB seasons with 101 homers, 1,732 RBI and 723 stolen bases. He was an eight-time batting champion and one-time World Series champion, and he certainly did not make anywhere close to the millions of dollars his trading cards have garnered in the intervening years, even accounting for inflation.
