Zion Williamson Injured, Latest Updates on Pelicans Star's Ankle Ahead of Clippers Game

Paul KasabianMar 1, 2026

New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers with an ankle injury, snapping a streak of 35 straight games played.

Williamson suffered a right ankle injury during his team's road game at the Utah Jazz on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Williamson entered Saturday averaged 21.9 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. He played 11 minutes against the Jazz before leaving.

Williamson is playing in his sixth NBA season. When healthy, he's an electric and game-changing talent. He was one of the most hyped NBA draft prospects in recent memory before the Pels selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft. Williamson has averaged 24.2 points on 58.8 percent shooting, 6.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game over his career, and he's also made a pair of All-Star Games.

Unfortunately, injuries have affected him over the duration of his career, including a Jones fracture in his right foot that cost him the entire 2021-22 season and a torn meniscus that cost him the first three months of his rookie year.

Williamson was able to suit up for 70 games during the 2023-24 season and responded with a productive campaign (22.9 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 5.0 APG). However, Williamson was held to 30 games last year primarily due to a left hamstring strain and a bone contusion in his lower back.

Williamson dealt with a Grade 1 left hamstring strain in November and a Grade 2 right hip adductor strain in December, but he had stayed in the lineup since Dec. 14.

Now, he will be sidelined for at least one game.

Although the Pelicans are all but out of the playoff race, they have been playing good ball of late, entering Saturday with a 5-2 record in their last seven games. They can certainly use some late-season momentum as hope for a brighter future in 2026-27.
