Kevin Durant's 'Incredible' 2028 Team USA Comments Hyped by Erik Spoelstra as KD Eyes 5th Gold Medal
Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, who will also coach the United States men's basketball team at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, was excited about Kevin Durant expressing his desire to participate in the Games.
"Just him saying that is incredible," Spoelstra said Saturday, via Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press. "You know, that's the culture of USA Basketball. You just want the best American players to raise their hand and say, 'I want to do this.'"

Durant confirmed that he's looking to pursue his fifth Olympic gold medal in a recent interview, but didn't want Team USA managing director Grant Hill to guarantee him a roster spot solely due to his history.
"Hell yeah, I want to play," Durant told ESPN's Vincent Goodwill. "I would love to, but I've got to stay on top of my game. I'm not expecting, I want to produce on the floor and make Grant and whoever is making the decisions, want to put me on the team. I don't want -- not just for seniority. I want to still prove I can help the team win."
Durant is the only four-time gold medalist in men's basketball at the Olympics, with his latest coming at the 2024 London Games. The Houston Rockets star is also the all-time United States men's basketball leading scorer in Olympic history.
While Durant will be just under 40 years old by the time the 2028 Games begin, he hasn't shown many signs of slowing down during his 2025-26 campaign.
He's averaging 26.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 50.8 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from three-point territory. Durant earned his 16th All-Star nod for his efforts.
While the two-time champion wants to earn his spot on the United States' Olympic roster, Spoelstra already seems to be open to his inclusion in 2028.
