JJ Redick Spoke to NBA Officiating Exec About Lakers-Celtics Game, Goaltending No-Call
Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick told reporters on Monday he spoke with Monty McCutchen, the NBA's senior vice president of referee development, and was given clarity on why Neemias Queta wasn't called for goaltending during Sunday's loss against the Boston Celtics.
"I talked with Monty this morning, got some great explanations on some stuff I had questions on," he said. "And truthfully, he said it wasn't a goaltend. So I don't know that we want to endanger our guys' fingers, but if I was Luke Kornet or [Victor Wembanyama], I literally every time someone took a shoot would stick my hand up in the rim and just jostle it. Because I think it's an incredible deterrent. It's a new thing for me to learn. ... You're allowed to stick your hand up in the rim on a shot just as long—and obviously the rim was jostled, so I guess there is some subjectivity to it—but as long as the rim isn't pulled down, I guess. Yeah, you can jostle the rim. That's the explanation I got."

Redick was clearly frustrated with the (apparently correct) non-call on Queta and the officiating in general, earning a technical foul during the 111-89 loss, one of three techs that went against the Lakers.
