LeBron James, Luka Doncic, Lakers Lose to Brown, Pritchard, Celtics as Fans Call Out LA's Struggles
On the same day as the statue for legendary former coach Pat Riley was unveiled, the Los Angeles Lakers didn't look very Showtime.
The Lakers didn't have much juice against the Boston Celtics, Riley's biggest rival during his Lakers' tenure in the 1980s, losing 111-89 on Sunday.
Jaylen Brown went off for 32 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the win, while the Lakers made Payton Pritchard (30 points, 6-of-9 from three) look like prime Larry Bird.
And while Luka Dončić (25 points), LeBron James (20 points, five assists) and Austin Reaves (15 points, seven boards) did their part, the rest of the team only managed to chip in with 29 points.
In other words, the rest of the Lakers were outscored by Pritchard... all by his lonesome. Yeesh.
Suffice to say, Lakers fans weren't happy with basically any aspect of Sunday's performance, and justifiably so. Pundits also took aim at the lackluster loss:
The Lakers didn't really do anything right on Sunday. They shot 30 percent from three (9-of-30) and 39 percent from the floor (34-of-87). They were out-rebounded 50-39 and out-assisted 29-18. The perimeter defense wasn't great. The supporting cast was awful.
The loss dropped them to 34-22, temporarily dropping them to the No. 6 seed in the West. The Celtics, meanwhile, are 36-19 and currently second in the East. And surely Riley was left wincing that the Celtics had the last laugh on his special day.
