Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine Injury Updates on Surgery Decisions, Return Timelines for Kings Stars

Andrew PetersFeb 18, 2026

Domantas Sabonis and Zach LaVine's seasons have reportedly come to an end.

Per ESPN's Shams Charania, the Sacramento Kings star had season-ending surgery on Wednesday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. According to Charania, Sabonis had previously rehabbed the tear and tried to play through it before ultimately having surgery.

Charania also reported LaVine is undergoing season-ending surgery to repair a tendon injury in his hand.

Sabonis suffered the injury in mid-November and missed more than a month, making his return on Jan. 16. The three-time All-Star also missed time earlier this year because of a strained hamstring and a rib contusion.

In total, he's appeared in just 19 of the Kings' 56 games, putting up 15.8 points, 11.4 boards and 4.1 assists per game, his worst statistical year since the 2018-19 campaign.

LaVine suffered his hand injury earlier this month and has missed the last three games. The veteran guard is the Kings' leading scorer, putting up 19.2 points per game in his second year in Sacramento.

Sabonis and LaVine were both involved in trade rumors ahead of the deadline, but the Kings ultimately opted to keep both around.

While losing Sabonis and LaVine for the remainder of the season is a tough break for the Kings, it's wise for both of those players to focus on rehabbing rather than trying to push through the injuries, considering Sacramento's current position.

The Kings have the league's worst record at 12-44 and would need a miracle to even make the play-in tournament. At this point, Sacramento should focus on getting its players healthy and perhaps improving its draft position ahead of a loaded class of 2026.

Meanwhile, Sabonis and LaVine will look to come back strong next season and try to help the Kings make their way back to the playoffs.
