Deion Sanders Ripped by Former Colorado TE Christian Fauria, 'A Lot of Flash' But 'No Substance'

Adam WellsFeb 12, 2026

Former Colorado tight end Christian Fauria might not be invited to any reunion events while Deion Sanders is head coach based on his recent comments about Coach Prime.

Appearing on The Zach Gelb Show (h/t Nick Bromberg of Yahoo Sports), Fauria ripped Sanders as having "a lot of flash but there's no substance" and explained he's not a fan of his coaching style:

"I'm just not a fan of the coach. I'm not. I'll never be a fan of the coach. I love the school, and this isn't me picking on Deion Sanders, because I picked on Joe Gibbs. The worst coach I ever had was Joe Gibbs. So me picking on Deion Sanders is nothing. I just don't like the way he coaches football. I don't think he's very bright. I don't think he can manage a game. I think there's a lot of flash but there's no substance. And he's got a lot of people brainwashed.

"And we'll see what he can do. But I'm just not a fan of him. Not a fan of his coaching style, not a fan of his messaging. There's a lot of things internally that I know about that I'm not a fan of. And it's just not worth my energy to sit there and follow it and go back and forth with the emperor has no clothes crowd that support him regardless of how stupid he is sometimes."

Fauria played for the Buffaloes from 1990 to '94, winning a national title during his freshman year. His relationship to the program extends beyond his own experience, as his son, Caleb, had a stint at Colorado.

Caleb Fauria was originally recruited to Colorado by Karl Dorrell as part of the 2020 recruiting class. He remained with the team through Sanders' first season as head coach in 2023 before transferring to Delaware.

Injuries impacted Caleb's time at Colorado, though he also cited "opportunity" as one of the reasons he made the decision to transfer. He appeared in just 17 games during his four years in Boulder.

Fauria had more catches in 12 games with the Blue Hens (12) than he did in his entire tenure with Colorado (three).

Christian admitted in his interview that he was initially supportive of Sanders' hiring, but he has since grown more negative as it has gone on.

Sanders' tenure with Colorado hasn't produced great results relative to the amount of attention he has brought to the program. The Buffaloes are 16-21 in his three seasons.

There's no denying, though, that Sanders did bring an excitement and enthusiasm that Colorado desperately needed. The program sold out its season ticket allotment in each of his first three years.

Prior to Sanders' hiring, Colorado hadn't sold out its season tickets since 1996. He has also brought more talent to the program than it had in a long time.

The Buffaloes had four players drafted to the NFL in 2025. It was their first time having a player drafted in four years and the first time having multiple players drafted since 2020.
