Setting aside the City Connect jerseys, the Tigers have maintained a pretty consistent design profile throughout their history. They've hardly ever veered away from their traditional home whites and away grays.
The 1995 season was one exception.
For one game only — a 12-1 defeat to the Boston Red Sox on May 7 — Detroit wore a navy blue jersey top with white pants. The logo also featured the script "D" but had a tiger walking through it.
According to MLB.com's Jason Beck, the uniform was quickly shelved due to generally lukewarm reviews. The original intention was to have pinstriped pants as well, but those were left in the clubhouse.
Now, the blue jerseys coming back, albeit in a different form perhaps.
Chris Creamer of SportsLogos.net quipped that newly signed Justin Verlander might be particularly happy that orange is becoming a larger part of the team's image:
Detroit starts the season March 26 against the San Diego Paadres. The Tigers will have their home opener on April 3 against the St. Louis Cardinals.
