Damian Lillard to Compete in 2026 NBA 3-Point Contest amid Injury, Full Field for All-Star Event
Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard will participate in this year's three-point contest, the NBA announced Sunday, despite not yet playing this season as he recovers from a torn Achilles.
Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey, Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker and Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell will headline the event.
They'll be joined by Denver Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray, Milwaukee Bucks big man Bobby Portis, Miami Heat wing Norman Powell and Charlotte Hornets rookie Kon Knueppel.
It will be the one chance fans get to see Lillard this season, as he's already been ruled out for the duration of the 2025-26 campaign with his injury.
He may understandably be a touch rusty, given his lack of game action since last season, but his three-point shooting pedigree is undisputed. His 2,804 career threes are the fifth most in NBA history, and he's hit them at an impressive 37.1 percent clip.
But the competition will be stiff:
- Maxey: 28.8 points per game, 38.2 percent from three on 8.8 attempts per game.
- Booker: 25.3 points per game, 30.7 percent from three on 5.5 attempts per game.
- Mitchell: 28.9 points per game, 37.9 percent from three on 9.7 attempts per game.
- Murray: 26 points per game, 43.2 percent from three on 7.5 attempts per game.
- Portis: 13.4 points per game, 45.1 percent from three on 4.3 attempts per game.
- Powell: 23 points per game, 39.3 percent from three on 7.2 attempts per game.
- Knueppel: 18.9 points per game, 42.8 percent from three on 7.8 attempts per game.
Another factor in Lillard's favor—he's a two-time champion (2023, 2024) in this event, so he's plenty familiar with the competition. The only other previous winner he'll face is Booker (2018).
Last year's champion, Tyler Herro, isn't participating as he continues to deal with a rib injury that has kept him out of action since mid-January. Powell and Lillard also competed in last year's contest.
