New Anthony Davis Injury Update, Latest on Wizards Star's Status and Timeline to Return

Zach BacharMar 20, 2026

Washington Wizards star Anthony Davis will remain sidelined through at least the end of March as he continues to recover from ligament damage in his left hand, the team announced Friday.

Davis' recovery "continues to progress positively, but the volar plate tissue in his left hand has not fully healed," the Wizards said in a statement. He'll be re-evaluated in one month.

The Wizards announced March 5 that Davis resumed individual on-court basketball activities and would be reevaluated in two weeks.

On Feb. 6, NBA insider Chris Haynes reported Davis was expected to sit out for the remainder of the 2025-26 season in order to fully recover from hand and groin injuries in time for his 2026-27 campaign.

Washington acquired Davis as part of an eight-player trade with the Dallas Mavericks on Feb. 4.

The 10-time All-Star's availability was in question prior to the swap, as he only appeared in 20 of the Mavericks' first 50 games of the regular season due to multiple injuries including ligament damage in his left hand.

Davis was still an imposing two-way force when healthy, averaging 20.4 points and 11.1 rebounds to go along with 1.7 blocks per game. He also shot 50.6 percent from the field.

Health woes have been an issue for Davis as of late, though. He's failed to suit up in more than 60 games during three of the past four years, including a mere 51 appearances during his 2024-25 season.

That year, a left adductor strain and an eye injury limited him to just nine games following the blockbuster trade that sent him from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Mavericks in exchange for a package headlined by Luka Dončić.

For now, the Wizards will rely on Alex Sarr and Will Riley to continue leading their frontcourt rotation.
