Latest NFL Rumors on Aaron Rodgers' Future, Kyler Murray Trade Buzz, Joe Flacco's Free Agency Market

Adam WellsFeb 7, 2026

The veteran quarterback market looks to be very unsettled with free agency set to begin on March 11.

Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Aaron Rodgers, Kyler Murray and Joe Flacco could all end up back where they were in 2025.

Even though Rodgers previously teased that the 2025 campaign could be his final year, Fowler noted the four-time NFL MVP came out of his season with the Pittsburgh Steelers "refreshed."

According to Fowler, the Steelers remain open to a bringing Rodgers back. New head coach Mike McCarthy also expressed a strong interest in reuniting with his former quarterback during his introductory press conference.

Murray has been a popular candidate to be on a new team next season after another injury-plagued year, but Fowler noted it's "still possible" he could remain with the Arizona Cardinals as new head coach Mike LaFleur determines his first steps:

"Keeping Murray could prove the path of least resistance. If he stays, Jacoby Brissett would become a workable trade candidate. He's due a reasonable $4.88 million in base salary. He has friends in the league—such as Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski and Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich—who could have interest in getting him."

If the Cardinals release Murray prior to June 1, they would be on the hook for a $54.7 million dead cap hit in 2026. A trade would save them almost $35 million against the cap, but his $36.8 million guaranteed salary could be an impediment for teams looking to acquire him.

There's also not a clear path for the Cardinals to get a quarterback with as much natural talent as Murray. They own the No. 3 pick in the draft, but there's not an obvious quarterback in this class who stands out at that spot assuming Fernando Mendoza comes off the board with the top pick.

Flacco, who turned 41 on Jan. 16, wants to play in 2026, but said this week that he doesn't "want to just sign up" with any team for the sake of continuing his career.

According to Fowler, Flacco "will have options" this offseason, citing the Steelers, Minnesota Vikings and Cincinnati Bengals as potential landing spots depending on their plan.

One thing Flacco added was it would be "pretty cool" if he could end his career having played for every team in the AFC North, which would mean he is intrigued at the idea of signing with the Steelers since he has already played for the Bengals, Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens.

The lack of high-upside options in the draft for teams seeking help at quarterback, either as a potential starter or in a backup role, could make for a very interesting trade and free-agent market with some of the veterans likely to command a lot of attention.
