Warriors Rumors on Draymond Green's Future After Giannis Trade Buzz, Kuminga-Porzingis Deal
The Golden State Warriors made a splash ahead of Thursday's trade deadline by acquiring center Kristaps Porzingis from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for forward Jonathan Kuminga and guard Buddy Hield, but it sounds like one of their other veteran stars is safe.
ESPN's Anthony Slater reported that star forward Draymond Green will remain with the Warriors through the trade deadline. Green was a part of trade discussions with the Milwaukee Bucks for star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo that "never gained traction."
Green has spent his entire career with the Warriors, helping the franchise win four NBA championships. Still, he sounded resigned to the possibility of being traded when asked about his involvement in rumors earlier this week.
"I've been here 13 and a half years," Green said after Tuesday night's loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. "That's longer than probably 98 percent of NBA players have been in one place. A guy from Saginaw, Michigan. I don't know that it ends at 13 and a half, but if it does, what a f--king run it's been. I'll take the fine. What a f--king run it has been. That's just how I feel."
While Green is now expected to remain in Golden State through the end of the season, his time with the franchise could still be coming to an end soon. ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported on Wednesday's episode of Get Up that after offering Green to the Bucks for Antetokounmpo, the Warriors signified that his time in the Bay Area is up.
"What I think is interesting is, they have now crossed the Rubicon here with Draymond Green," Windhorst said. "If he is not traded by tomorrow, it would not surprise me if these talks were revisited in the summer in the last year of his contract, whether it would be in another Giannis offer or somewhere else. I think that's where we're getting to in this story."
Green will go down as one of the greatest players in Warriors franchise history, but it sounds like there's a chance that he spends the end of his illustrious career in another uniform.
