New NBA Trade Rumors on Cam Thomas Amid Cavs, Bucks Links Ahead of Deadline
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Milwaukee Bucks both have interest in trading for Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
The 24-year-old Thomas, who is in his fifth NBA season, is averaging 15.6 points on 39.9 percent shooting (32.5 percent from three) and 3.1 assists in 24.3 minutes per game. He has played in 24 games (eight starts) and missed a month-and-a-half with a left hamstring strain from Nov. 7 to Dec. 23.
This hasn't been the best season for Thomas, who dealt with serious injury last year as well due to a season-ending left hamstring strain. The former LSU star only played 25 games but excelled on the court with 24.0 points on 43.8 percent shooting (34.9 percent from three) the year before.
The left-hander enjoyed a breakout season in 2023-24 with 22.5 PPG on 44.2 percent shooting in 66 games (51 starts).
Obviously, this season has been tough given the injury. He was scoring well before the ailment, posting 24.4 PPG in his first seven games. Thomas has been on a minutes limit since he return, never playing more than 25 minutes per night.
It's easy to see why the Cavs or Bucks might be interested given his scoring prowess. Thomas is a fantastic offensive player at his best, and that's something that could particularly interest the Cavs, who are clearly shooting for an NBA title right now after trading Darius Garland to the Los Angeles Clippers for James Harden.
In Cleveland, Thomas could come off the bench as additional backourt help as the Cavs look to win their first NBA title in 10 years.
The 19-29 Bucks, of course, need help in multiple areas as their season continues to crumble. Of course, there's a major question mark regarding the future status of Giannis Antetokounmpo, whose time in town could be nearing its end. Thomas could help the Bucks offensively, though, as they look to stop the bleeding in the interim.
