Everything the Mavs Got for Luka Doncic After Trading Anthony Davis to Wizards

Mike ChiariFeb 4, 2026

The Luka Dončić trade tree grew another branch Wednesday with the Dallas Mavericks' reported trade of Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Mavs agreed to send Davis, Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum to Washington in exchange for Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, two first-round picks and three second-round picks.

Dallas originally acquired Davis, Max Christie and the Los Angeles Lakers' 2029 first-round pick from L.A. last season in exchange for Dončić, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris.

In the wake of Davis' trade to Washington, the following is a rundown of every asset the Mavs now have to show for the Dončić deal:

  • Max Christie
  • Khris Middleton
  • AJ Johnson
  • Malaki Branham
  • Marvin Bagley III
  • Lakers 2029 first-round pick
  • Thunder 2026 first-round pick
  • Warriors 2030 protected first-round pick
  • Suns 2026 second-round pick
  • Bulls 2027 second-round pick
  • Rockets 2029 second-round pick

In Dončić, the Mavs traded away one of the five best players in the league and a perennial NBA MVP candidate.

The six-time All-Star has continued to thrive in L.A., leading the NBA with 33.4 points per game this season to go along with 8.7 assists, 7.9 rebounds, 3.6 three-pointers made and 1.5 steals.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks have struggled during the post-Luka era, missing the playoffs last season and sitting in 12th place in the Western Conference with a 19-31 record this season.

The most valuable assets to come out of the Dončić trade were likely the draft picks, but a 2026 Thunder first-rounder is likely to be one of the final picks of the round, and the Warriors first-rounder is top-20 protected.

While the 2029 Lakers first-rounder could prove useful, that isn't guaranteed since Los Angeles may still be a good team by then if Dončić is still leading the way.

Of the players the Mavericks picked up, most are just depth pieces, but Christie has a chance to be a significant contributor for years to come.

A second-round pick in the 2022 NBA draft, Christie is in the midst of his fourth NBA season.

The 22-year-old guard has received the most consistent playing time of his career this season with 29.5 minutes per game, and he has parlayed that into career-best production with 13.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.5 three-pointers made and 2.2 assists per game.

Dallas' biggest gain from the Dončić trade wasn't even acquired in a trade, but it was a consequence of parting ways with Dončić.

By trading Dončić, the Mavs missed the playoffs last season, which allowed them to be part of the NBA draft lottery. They went on to win the lottery and select Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick.

Flagg looks every bit like a franchise cornerstone, and he is the NBA Rookie of the Year front-runner with averages of 20.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game.

The assets acquired directly for Dončić come nowhere close to matching the value Luka brings to the table, but the Mavericks still have a bright future thanks to Flagg.
