Anthony Davis Played How Many Games for Mavs? Full Luka Trade Fallout After Wizards Deal

Adam WellsFeb 4, 2026

Three hundred and sixty seven days after being the centerpiece of the return for the Dallas Mavericks in the Luka Dončić trade, Anthony Davis' tenure with the organization has come to an end.

Davis will end his time with the Mavericks having played just 29 games over the past 12 months after being traded to the Washington Wizards on Wednesday.

Per ESPN's Shams Charania, the Wizards are sending a package that includes five draft picks (two first-rounders) to Dallas in exchange for Davis and four other players.

The Mavs will also receive Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham and Marvin Bagley III in the deal, with Washington adding Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum.

There was never any way that Davis was going to make anyone in Dallas forget about Dončić, but the first game he played after the trade was a nice reminder of how dominant he can be.

Davis put up 26 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists in 31 minutes against the Houston Rockets on Feb. 8, 2025. It did end with a whimper due to a lower body injury that knocked him out of the game in the third quarter and kept him sidelined until March 24.

That debut turned out to be the peak of Davis' Mavs tenure. His final game was on Jan. 8 when he suffered a wrist injury that doesn't require surgery, but is expected to keep him out for at least six weeks.

Davis averaged 20.2 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game in the 29 games with Dallas. The Mavs did go 16-13 in his 29 games, compared to 16-38 in 54 games without him.

It's unclear what sort of protections might be attached to the Wizards picks coming to Dallas, but on the surface the return for the player who was the main piece in the Dončić trade is not ideal.

There was never any real chance, especially given the injury issues, that Davis was going to bring back a major return. The best path for the Mavs was doing whatever they could to add future assets to build around Cooper Flagg.

Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi, who are acting as co-general managers since Nico Harrison was fired on Nov. 11, were able to do that in this deal.

The Mavs are 19-31 this season and weren't going anywhere, even if Davis can return right at the end of the six-week timeline and play at the peak of his powers. Everyone gets a fresh start with this trade.
