Latest Donovan Mitchell Rumors on Cavs Future amid Contract Buzz Ahead of NBA Trade Deadline
As Thursday's NBA trade deadline quickly approaches, the Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly may not be done tinkering their roster.
During this week's episode of The Hoop Collective (41:30 mark), ESPN's Tim Bontemps explained that the Cavs could be fielding trade interest for star guard Donovan Mitchell.
"I think they're the most interesting team to watch in the entire league, because people around the league are watching the Donovan Mitchell situation," Bontemps said. "He's got one guaranteed year left on his contract. He has not made it out of the second round of the playoffs in his career."
At 30-21, the Cavs rank fifth in the Eastern Conference in a year where they were expected to be one of the top contenders. Cleveland has won six of its last seven games, including a 130-111 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night.
The Cavs already made some changes by trading swingman De'Andre Hunter to the Sacramento Kings for veteran guard Dennis Schroder and wing Keon Ellis on Sunday.
Still, Bontemps explained that there will be more work to do if Mitchell hopes to overcome his playoff woes in Cleveland this season.
"There's pressure there for the Cavs to make a run this year," he said. "... This trade was fine, I would rather have Keon Ellis than De'Andre Hunter, but this is not gonna be enough, in my opinion, to get the Cavs where they need to go to satisfy the pressure that's on."
The Cavs won't be in action again until Wednesday against the Los Angeles Clippers, so there's a chance the roster will look different the next time they take the floor.
