Jalon Daniels, Dom Richardson Stand Out to CFB Fans as West Beats East in 2026 Shrine Bowl

Scott PolacekJan 27, 2026

The 101st East-West Shrine Bowl belongs to the West team.

The West team defeated the East team 21-17 on Tuesday at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, in the latest edition of the oldest All-Star Game in college football. The annual event invites some of the top seniors in the nation to show off their talent and potentially bolster their stock ahead of the NFL draft.

Players such as Brock Purdy, Zay Flowers and Jacory Croskey-Merritt have starred in recent years and joined a list of alumni that includes Tom Brady, Walter Payton, Eddie George and John Elway.

Dom Richardson and Jalon Daniels joined their ranks after impressing in Tuesday's contest.

Richardson, who is a running back from Tulsa, took over with the game on the line and spearheaded the West team's winning drive in the final minutes. He overpowered East defenders in the hole on a number of runs and fittingly was the one to find the end zone with just six seconds remaining.

His touchdown put the West side up for good, as the East team's Hail Mary with two seconds remaining fell incomplete.

Social media had plenty of reaction to Richardon's performance:

The late touchdown helped the victors overcome solid play from Daniels earlier in the contest, as he led the East team's first scoring drive in the opening half after it fell behind 9-0.

Daniels' touchdown run right before the half gave the East some momentum, and it parlayed that into the lead in the second half.

The Kansas quarterback also drew positive reviews from social media:

However, Richardson proved too difficult to stop down the stretch.

While Richardson and Daniels were among those who played well, one of the more notable storylines was how many players opted out:

Still, plenty of prospects took the field Tuesday, none of which came through in the biggest moments more than Richardson.
