Darian Mensah Reportedly Transfers to Miami After Reaching Settlement with Duke

Joseph ZuckerJan 27, 2026

Former Duke quarterback Darian Mensah has reportedly transferred to Miami after reaching a settlement with the Blue Devils, according to On3's Pete Nakos and Hayes Fawcett. .

Young Money APAA Sports, which represents Mensah, announced Tuesday the quarterback and Duke "reached a fair and mutually agreeable resolution" to allow him to enter the transfer portal.

The news of Mensah's' transfer to Miami comes after ESPN's Pete Thamel reported the redshirt sophomore was expected to complete his desired move to join the Hurricanes.

Mensah announced in mid-December he planned on returning to the Blue Devils for the 2026 season. He threw for the second-most passing yards in FBS (3,973) and tied for second in touchdowns (34), so the news was a major coup for head coach Manny Diaz.

Alas, the second-team All-ACC honoree had second thoughts and entered the transfer portal just ahead of the Jan. 16 deadline. That set up a stalemate between Mensah and Duke. The school went so far as to take the matter to court, pointing to the NIL contract he had signed.

A similar situation emerged between Washington and quarterback Demond Williams Jr., with Williams ultimately staying in Seattle.

Mensah, on the other hand, remained determined to secure his exit, and now he has it.

With Mensah now headed to Miami, the 6'3" signal-caller will replace Carson Beck, and he's arguably an upgrade for the Hurricanes.

Beck brought a wealth of experience, spending five years at Georgia before heading south. But he combined to throw 24 interceptions between 2024 and 2025, the last of which helped Indiana secure a victory in the College Football Playoff title game.

Should he have a big year in 2026, Mensah could throw his hat into the NFL draft ring. Thanks to NIL compensation, the top-rated quarterbacks are no longer heading to the pros at the first opportunity, though. Oregon's Dante Moore could've potentially been a top-five pick and chose to stay in school.

Unlike Beck, Mensah should be more than a short-term stopgap at QB.
