Miami's Mohamed Toure Returning for 8th CFB Season, How is LB Still Eligible?

Andrew PetersJan 25, 2026

Miami linebacker Mohamed Toure is returning for an eighth college football season after the Hurricanes fell short against Indiana in the national championship.

While most of the class of 2019 has left college football at this point, Toure is able to play another season because of what has been a wild journey for him.

After committing to Rutgers, he redshirted the 2019 season before the COVID-19 season in 2020. Those two years essentially didn't count towards his eligibility. He played the 2021 campaign with the Scarlett Knights before losing the 2022 season due to an injury. He suited up in 2023, but injuries once again struck in 2024 and kept him sidelined for the entire year.

Toure transferred to Miami and played the 2025 season, meaning he's only had three seasons count toward his eligibility.

He's coming off a good year with the Hurricanes in which he logged 84 tackles, six passes defended and a pair of sacks. In his career, he has 250 tackles and 15.5 sacks.

The 24-year-old will look to come back even stronger in 2026 and help Miami redeem itself after just missing out on a national title in 2025.
