Deion Sanders Details Rules for Colorado Players in New Video Ahead of 2026 CFB Season

Paul KasabianJan 23, 2026

Colorado football has turned the page to the 2026 season, and head coach Deion Sanders led the Buffaloes' first meeting this week, as shown by Well Off Media.

Sanders, who has brought in 42 incoming transfers, laid down clear rules for his team. One of them was directed toward players joining CU from other schools.

"Don't wear your old team's gear in this facility," Sanders said (h/t Brent Schrotenboer of USA Today).

"That's disrespectful. That would be like your lady that you have currently wearing her ex (boyfriend's) stuff. How you feel about that? She sitting up here with a shirt on that has her ex's name… That's how I feel about that when I see you coming to the cafeteria. You eat our food with your last teams on it? Obviously, if you wanted to stay there, you should have stayed."

Sanders also made a few rules clear to stress professionalism and respect. For starters, profanity isn't allowed outside the team meeting room. Players can't have cellphones, food or drinks in team meetings.

In addition, Sanders stressed that women must be treated respectfully and female staff members must be called "Miss."

Colorado football is entering Sanders' fourth season as head coach. The Pro Football Hall of Famer took over a team that went 1-11 in 2022 and immediately led the Buffaloes to a three-win improvement at 4-8. Colorado then leaped to 9-3 overall and the No. 25 overall spot in the Associated Press poll in 2024, with two-way star Travis Hunter winning the Heisman Trophy.

With the team experiencing a host of key departures to the NFL, including Hunter and Sanders' son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, the Buffaloes regressed in year three at 3-9 overall.

However, the Buffaloes have an influx of talent rolling in (their transfer class is ranked No. 22 overall, per 247Sports) and could very well bounce back in 2026.
