Kansas HC Bill Self Updates Status, Timeline for Return After Being Hospitalized
After being hospitalized on Monday and missing Tuesday's game against Colorado, Kansas head coach Bill Self plans to return to the sideline for Saturday's game at Kansas State, per the Associated Press.
Kansas released a statement Monday saying that Self was taken to LMH Health "out of an abundance of caution" after the veteran head coach "felt under the weather." Self later said that he had "abnormal" chest pain.
"The situation I had was very similar to what many people have. Mine got me pretty good for a short snippet of time and then was under control," Self said. "That won't have any impact at all moving forward in any way, shape or form."

Report: NCAA to Expand March Madness 🚨
Self has had several heart procedures in the past, including one that left him absent from the 2023 Big 12 and NCAA tournaments. Over the summer, Self was hospitalized and had two stents inserted, though he said he'd have no "restrictions' during the 2025-26 season.
The No. 19 Jayhawks are off to a 14-5 start and have gone 4-2 in conference play, with losses to UCF and West Virginia, but a big win over then-ranked Iowa State. Having Self back in the fold is crucial ahead of a stretch that will see Kansas face four ranked opponents over its next six games.
