Kansas HC Bill Self 'Feeling Much Better' After Being Hospitalized, Will Miss Colorado Game
Kansas men's basketball head coach Bill Self said he's "feeling much better" after going to the hospital as a precaution on Monday.
"Self felt under the weather earlier today and, out of an abundance of caution, was taken to LMH Health where he received IV fluids," Kansas said in a statement on Monday. "He is feeling better but did not accompany the team to Boulder."
Self, 63, is in his 23rd season leading the Jayhawks, compiling a 637-161 record at the school. He's never missed the NCAA tournament at Kansas and has led the school to a pair of national championships and four Final 4 appearances.
Kansas has started the 2025-26 season with a 13-5 record and is ranked 19th in the nation, which is also where they were ranked to start the season. Kansas is currently looking up at top-ranked Arizona, No. 6 Houston, No. 12 Texas Tech, No. 13 BYU, No. 9 Iowa State and UCF in the Big 12 standings.
Self's prized recruit coming into the season, guard Darryn Peterson, has more than lived up to the hype when healthy this season. The potential top overall pick at the 2026 NBA draft is averaging 22.2 points, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game. A groin injury limited him to just nine games, however.
Those issues seemed well behind him on Friday night, however, when he torched Baylor for 26 points. Kansas is 6-3 when he plays and 7-2 without him this year.
