Giannis Calls Out Bucks Teammates on Video After Blowout Loss to Thunder, 'Guys Are Being Selfish'

Adam WellsJan 22, 2026

Frustration seems like it's starting to boil over for Giannis Antetokounmpo after the Milwaukee Bucks lost 122-102 against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Antetokounmpo called out his Bucks teammates by saying "guys are being selfish" in trying to do everything on their own rather than playing within the system (starts at 3:06 mark):

"We're not playing hard. We're not playing to win. We're not playing together. Our chemistry's not there. Guys are being selfish. Guys trying to do it on their own. Right now I think we just don't get it. We got 39 games left, we don't have time. We really don't."

Another point of emphasis for Antetokounmpo was the lack of touches he was getting after only taking 11 shots, tying his fewest in a game all season not counting the two games he left early due to an injury (starts at 2:04 mark).

"I don't understand," said Antetokounmpo. "Maybe because we're young. Maybe because we're not playing well. Maybe because guys think it's their turn. I really don't get it. I really don't. Maybe I gotta do it more (demand the ball)."

The Thunder held Antetokounmpo to 19 points, though he was efficient by making eight of his 11 field-goal attempts. He also grabbed 14 rebounds and dished out seven assists in the loss.

This game was essentially over after the first quarter when the Bucks fell behind 38-18. They never got within 13 points of Oklahoma City in the final three quarters.

Antetokounmpo's shot attempts are becoming part of a bigger trend for him. The two-time NBA MVP has taken 13 or fewer shots in five of the last six games. He only did that three times in his first 23 starts, with two of them coming in games he suffered an injury in the first half.

Overall this season, Antetokounmpo is averaging 16.5 shot attempts per game. That would mark his fewest since the 2016-17 season when he made his first All-Star team.

Antetokounmpo also isn't getting to the free-throw line at the same rate that he has in recent years. His 9.7 attempts per game from the charity stripe is on pace to be his fewest since 2020-21.

Some of this could be explained because the talent Milwaukee has assembled around Antetokounmpo isn't strong enough to force opposing defenses to pay attention to anyone other than him.

Milwaukee has now lost four of its last five games, which each of its last three losses coming by at least 18 points.

With two weeks remaining before the trade deadline, the Bucks (18-25) sit outside of the play-in tournament as the No. 11 seed in the Eastern Conference. They will attempt to regroup for Friday when they host the Denver Nuggets at Fiserv Forum.
