Mendoza was named the 2025 Heisman Trophy winner in December after leading the Hoosiers to a 13-0 record during the regular season.
One month later, he helped Indiana seal a 27-21 championship game win over Miami by diving into the end zone for a rushing touchdown in Monday's fourth quarter at Hard Rock Stadium.
The win completed one of the most stunning turnarounds in college football history.
The Hoosiers went 3-9 one season before hiring Cignetti, who immediately went on to lead the program to an 11-2 record in 2024 followed by an undefeated run to the title in 2025.
Mendoza could now cap off that historic season by becoming the first Indiana alum since 1938 to be selected with the top pick of the NFL draft. He is currently projected to go to the Las Vegas Raiders with the No. 1 pick of the 2026 draft on Bleacher Report's latest mock.
