Miami Loses to Indiana in CFP Title Game as Fans Criticize Carson Beck, Applaud Toney
Miami put together its best season in more than two decades to reach the national championship game for the first time in the College Football Playoff era, but the Hurricanes fell just short.
No. 10 Miami lost to top-ranked, undefeated Indiana 27-21 in the title game on Monday, bringing to an end a miraculous CFP run from the Canes.
Miami went scoreless in the first half, but quickly got back into the game in the second half. Ultimately, Carson Beck's interception on Miami's final drive sealed the loss for the Hurricanes.
While the team came up short of the ultimate goal, there were still some memorable performances—most notably wide receiver Malachi Toney's.
Toney posted 122 receiving yards and a touchdown. Despite the loss, fans applauded him on social media afterwards.
Beck had a decent performance overall with 232 yards on 19-of-32 passing, but unfortunately for him, the thing Miami fans will remember most is the interception that sealed the loss.
Beck was a member of two national championship-winning teams at Georgia, but he couldn't lead the Bulldogs to glory when he was the starter. He hoped to finally lead a team to a national championship in Miami, but it wasn't in the cards for him. His college career is now over, and he'll try his luck at the next level.
The 2025 campaign is just the beginning for Toney, though. Despite being the No. 49-ranked receiver in the class of 2025, he was one of the best freshmen in the country this year.
He couldn't lead the Canes to the promised land this year, but he'll be fired up for a big sophomore season in the fall.
