Kawhi Leonard Injury Update on Timeline to Return After Breaking Clippers Record in Loss vs. Kings
Los Angeles Clippers star forward Kawhi Leonard suffered a sprained left ankle in Saturday's 118-109 loss to the Sacramento Kings.
Leonard scored 31 points in 26 minutes of action. In doing so, he set a new franchise record:
His injury, on top of the loss, put a damper on the evening. The team has yet to provide any insight into whether he could be sidelined moving forward.
After missing 10 games in November due to foot and ankle injuries, Leonard has returned to his usual form as one of the best two-way players in the NBA. In 53 appearances this season, he's averaged 28.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals.
The Clippers got off to a very slow start this season before finding their groove in recent weeks, climbing to eighth in the Western Conference with a 34-33 record. Leonard's presence has largely contributed to the team's success, as he's played in 30 of the team's wins.
If Leonard is forced to miss time, the Clippers will rely on guards Darius Garland and Bennedict Mathurin to lead the offense. Players like Nicolas Batum, Kobe Sanders and Jordan Miller would also see increased playing time until the veteran wing is able to return to the lineup.
