Latest Anthony Davis, Warriors Trade Rumors amid Jonathan Kuminga's Reported Request
Even though the Golden State Warriors have been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Anthony Davis if the Dallas Mavericks move him, the likelihood of that happening prior to the Feb. 5 trade deadline appears to be very low.
On the latest episode of ESPN's Stock Report YouTube show (starts at 5:54 mark), Anthony Slater explained there is "zero appetite" from the Warriors for Davis right now:
"I sense zero appetite for that right now from the Warriors. "… Not only trading for a guy, but you would very likely trade Draymond Green in that scenario. And it's like imagine trading Draymond Green for a guy who, like, 'He might be back around playoff time.'"
ESPN's Tim Bontemps added that even though Davis' fit would make "a lot of sense" for the Warriors, it is "now off the board" given the cost of his contract and uncertainty around his availability due to injuries.
Per HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, the expectation from several league executives is that Davis will remain in Dallas past the trade deadline "unless the Mavericks essentially want to salary dump him."
The Warriors are almost certain to make a move prior to the deadline. Slater and Shams Charania reported on Thursday that Jonathan Kuminga, who hasn't played since Dec. 18, "demanded" a trade from the club.
Given Kuminga's erratic on-court play throughout his career, it seems unlikely the Warriors will be able to get a significant return for him. There's also not a good deal they can build for the Mavericks that would entice them to trade Davis.
If you assume that Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler are the only untouchables on Golden State's roster, what does a hypothetical offer of Kuminga and Draymond Green do for Dallas?
Since Davis is currently out for at least six weeks due to a wrist injury and has only played in 29 games since Jan. 30, 2025, it's impossible to expect he will be an impact player for a contending team.
On top of that, Davis' agent, Rich Paul, has reportedly been angling to get the 10-time All-Star into a situation with a team that will give him a contract extension. Davis is under contract through next season with a $58.5 million salary in 2026-27 and has a $62.8 million player option for 2027-28.
The Warriors have started to play better lately with four wins in their last five games. They are four games over .500 (23-19) for the first time all season and have climbed up to eighth in the Western Conference standings.
