'Elite' Darryn Peterson Praised by Kansas' Bill Self After Upset Win vs. No. 2 Iowa State
After helping to lead unranked Kansas to a dominant upset win over No. 2 Iowa State, star freshman Darryn Peterson received some high praise from his head coach.
"This is more what I envisioned," Jayhawks coach Bill Self said after the 83-64 victory, per the Associated Press. "We've got an elite player -- we got an elite scorer -- and even tonight, when [Peterson] went to get his own, he can do some things other guys can't do. But the thing is the other guys are good players. We don't need to defer to him. I don't know that we've found that balance yet. But tonight was the closest thing to it."

Peterson recorded 16 points, five rebounds and two steals on Tuesday night, which marked the first loss of the season for the Cyclones (16-1). The Jayhawks (12-5) had four players score in double figures, led by Tre White's 19 points and 10 rebounds.
B/R's Jonathan Wasserman predicted in his latest mock draft that Peterson would be selected No. 1 overall by the Indiana Pacers. While the sharpshooting guard has endured some injuries this season and dealt with cramping issues yet again on Tuesday, his stock remains at an all-time high.
"Feeling better. It's coming back slowly to me," Peterson said after the game. "I was out for a while but every game is getting better. This was a great win, especially coming off the loss to West Virginia. We knew we had to come out and get a win."
Kansas will try to keep the momentum going when it returns to action on Friday night at home against Baylor (11-5).
