"This is peak Bloomington," Bloomington mayor Kerry Thomson said as part of the announcement. "It's playful, communal, and exactly the kind of wholesome quirk that makes our city so special."
Ponds intercepted a pass from Oregon quarterback Dante Moore and returned it for a touchdown on the Ducks' first offensive play of the CFP clash on Friday.
He finished with six tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss in the victory.
Ponds is in the midst of an impressive junior season with the Hoosiers, racking up 56 tackles, eight passes defended, four tackles for loss and two interceptions.
The name change for the pond will remain in place throughout the week leading up to Indiana's matchup with Miami in the national championship game. Kickoff is on Monday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
