Bo Bichette Rumors Reveal Phillies 'Optimism' amid Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers Buzz
The Philadelphia Phillies have seemingly jumped to the front of the line for star infielder Bo Bichette.
According to Matt Gelb of The Athletic, "As rival clubs are beginning to view the Phillies as Bichette's most serious suitor, a development even the Phillies would not have envisioned last month, the momentum toward a surprising match is difficult to ignore. The two sides met Monday on a video conference call, and although those involved declined to reveal details, multiple sources briefed on the meeting said both parties emerged with optimism."
Jon Heyman of the New York Post offered a similar assessment, though he noted a number of other suitors are still lurking, including the Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Predicting MLB All-Star Roster Selections 🔮

1 Fun Fact About Every MLB Team Thus Far 😀
On one hand, a Bichette signing would make a lot of sense for the Phillies. The team desperately needs protection for Bryce Harper and a right-handed bat in the middle of the lineup. Bichette—a two-time All-Star who has hit 20 or more homers three times in his career, has registered 90 or more RBI three times and has a career .806 OPS—could potentially address both needs.
But signing him would require some sacrifices.
For one, it would almost assuredly mean the end of J.T. Realmuto's time in Philadelphia. While the veteran catcher has regressed offensively (.257 with 12 homers, 52 RBI and a .700 OPS in 2025), he is widely respected by the team's pitching staff and known to call a great game. And the Phillies don't have a natural in-house replacement for him.
But Realmuto is 34 and has already shown major signs of regression. A multiyear deal may not look pretty on the back end. At some point, the Phillies are going to have to contemplate life without Realmuto. Bringing in an offensive upgrade to the lineup like Bichette would ease the adjustment.
There's also the matter of finding a spot in the infield for him. Bohm was put on the trade market last year, so he would be the player most likely to be shopped, leaving either Bichette or current second baseman Bryson Stott to adjust to third base. There's no guarantee either would be a plus defender at third, though both players have shown an ability to play both shortstop and second base.
Still, there was the sense that the Phillies needed to shake things up a bit after coming up short in the playoffs yet again in the 2025 season, specifically because the bats went ice-cold against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The team has one of the best starting rotations in the sport, especially if Zack Wheeler returns in top form, and has made moves to shore up the bullpen.
Adding a player like Bichette could be the one final move needed to get this current Phillies core over the hump. And if the Phillies are willing to offer more years than other suitors on the market, it's a potential marriage that would make plenty of sense for all parties involved.
