Fernando Mendoza, Cignetti, Indiana Rout Oregon to Wow CFB Fans, Set Up CFP Bracket Final vs. Miami
Fernando Mendoza and the Indiana Hoosiers will be playing Miami for a shot at the national championship.
Indiana defeated Oregon 56-22 in Friday night's Peach Bowl to clinch its trip to the College Football Playoff title game.
College football fans have high expectations for Indiana's chances against Miami after Friday's dominant win over Oregon.
Oregon got off to a rough start to Friday's semifinal game when Dante Moore threw a pick-six on the first play from scrimmage.
Moore responded by leading the Ducks on a game-tying touchdown drive, although he struggled with ball control later in the half.
The Hoosiers took advantage of two second-quarter fumbles from Moore, including one that turned into an Indiana touchdown.
Mendoza meanwhile racked up three first-half touchdown passes help Indiana climb out to an 35-7 lead by the break.
Running back Dierre Hill Jr. helped the Ducks put up a fight in the third quarter with a 71-yard run that set Oregon up for a touchdown and two-point conversion.
Mendoza ultimately sealed the blowout for the Hoosiers while finishing the game 17-for-20 with 177 passing yards, five passing touchdowns and no interceptions.
Kaelon Black ran in two rushing touchdowns to help seal Indiana's blowout victory.
The Hoosiers defense kept Oregon from pushing back with a dominant performance of their own. The Ducks, who had allowed 16 sacks through the first 14 games of the season, gave up three on Friday.
Miami earned its own ticket to the title game by claiming a 31-27 win over Ole Miss in Thursday night's Fiesta Bowl.
The Hurricanes will now be tasked with taking on the only undefeated team left in college football when the national championship game kicks off on Jan. 19 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
