How Much Money Will Miami Earn from CFP Championship Run After Win vs. Ole Miss?

Adam WellsJan 9, 2026

To the victor goes the spoils, as the Miami Hurricanes are finding out amid their run to the College Football Playoff Championship Game.

After the Hurricanes' 31-27 victory over Mississippi on Thursday, sports business insider Joe Pompliano noted they will receive a total of $23 million between the conference payout and travel expenses for reaching the title game.

Thursday's victory also ensured Miami won't leave home again this season because the College Football Playoff Championship Game will be played at Hard Rock Stadium, so the program can keep the $3 million in travel expenses to do with as it sees fit.

The bulk of those earnings will come from the ACC share of the playoff purse because the conference doesn't split the prize money.

Per Amanda Christovich of Front Office Sports, the ACC is the only Power Four conference that distributes the entirety of its prize pool to the schools that earned them.

Christovich noted the other conferences have their own models for distributing playoff funds. For example, the Big Ten and Big 12 put the money in a pool and distribute it equally among each program and provide "requisite travel expenses."

The SEC uses a hybrid approach that provides a set amount based on how far a team advances, as well as a travel allowance, with the leftover funds being put into a pool that is "distributed equally in shares for each SEC program and the conference office."

Per the College Football Playoff's revenue distribution model, conferences receive $4 million for each team that makes the 12-team field and $4 million for advancing to the quarterfinal. The payout jumps up to $6 million for reaching the semifinal and title game.

The $20 million payout for the Hurricanes is a nice turn of events considering they were the final at-large team to make the playoff and their inclusion was hotly debated after getting in over Notre Dame.

Miami is one win away from its first national title since 2001. It will await the winner of Friday's semifinal matchup between Oregon and Indiana.

The 2026 College Football Playoff Championship Game will be played on January 19 in Miami.
