Kewan Lacy Reportedly Signs New Ole Miss Contract After Chambliss amid Kiffin-LSU Buzz
Star running back Kewan Lacy will reportedly remain at Ole Miss for the 2026 college football season.
According to ESPN's Max Olson and Pete Thamel, sources indicated Monday that Lacy "signed a deal" to stay with the Rebels amid a breakout sophomore season.
Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss also announced this week that he will return to Ole Miss in 2026, provided the NCAA accepts his waiver for a sixth year of eligibility.
The commitments of Lacy and Chambliss are meaningful to the Ole Miss program since it means they won't follow former head coach Lane Kiffin, who accepted the head coaching job at LSU in late November.
After playing sparingly at Missouri last season, Lacy transferred to Ole Miss, and he quickly established himself as the Rebels' go-to running back.
Through 14 games this season, Lacy has rushed for 1,464 yards and 23 touchdowns, while also catching 28 passes for 173 yards. Lacy ranks third in FBS in rushing yardage and second in rushing touchdowns, and he still has at least one game left to play.
Despite Kiffin's departure after an 11-1 start, the Rebs have persevered under new head coach Pete Golding, who was promoted from his role as defensive coordinator.
With Golding leading the way, Ole Miss blew out Tulane in the College Football Playoff, and then it upset third-seeded Georgia 39-34 in the quarterfinals.
Despite playing through a shoulder injury, Lacy was a huge factor in the Sugar Bowl win over Georgia, rushing for 98 yards and two touchdowns.
By virtue of beating the Bulldogs, Ole Miss advanced to the CFP semifinals for the first time where it will face 10th-seeded Miami in the Fiesta Bowl on Thursday.
The winner of that game will go on to face the winner of No. 1 Indiana vs. No. 5 Oregon in the National Championship Game, meaning the Rebels are two victories away from their first national title since 1962.
While Ole Miss would undoubtedly love to seal the deal and win a championship now that it is so close to doing so, the return of Lacy and potential return of Chambliss means the Rebels' championship window has been extended through at least the 2026 season.
