He wasn't alone in going to Happy Valley, however:

Becht, a Zephyrhills, Florida, native, initially committed to Iowa State as a 3-star prospect and the No. 33 quarterback in the class of 2022, per 247Sports' composite rankings. He chose the Cyclones over Ole Miss, Wake Forest and a handful of other programs.

After playing behind Hunter Dekkers as a freshman, Becht took over as the starter in 2023. In his time at Iowa State, Becht recorded 9,274 passing yards, 64 touchdowns and 27 interceptions.

In 2025, Becht threw for 2,584 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions while adding 116 yards and eight scores on the ground as Iowa State finished 8-4.

Becht entered the transfer portal shortly after Penn State hired Campbell as its new head coach. In a social media post announcing his decision, Becht said he was leaving Iowa State to "pursue new opportunities for my senior season," adding that the school "will forever be a part of who I am."

Campbell was hired as Iowa State's head coach in 2016 and led the Cyclones to winning seasons in all but two campaigns. The 46-year-old will now take over in State College and hopes to get the Nittany Lions trending in the right direction.

Having a veteran quarterback like Becht on his roster should make Campbell's first year at the helm much easier.
