MLB Trade Deadline 2015: Hottest Rumors Leading Up to Friday's Deadline

Brian MaziqueJul 30, 2015

The Major League Baseball non-waiver trade deadline is at 4 p.m. ET on Friday, but we've already seen a good number of deals and one non-deal.

Carlos Gomez isn't going back to the New York Mets after all. On Wednesday the Milwaukee Brewers had reportedly agreed to send the outfielder back to the team he originally played for, but the trade was nixed.

Per Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Mets were alarmed by a hip issue with the 29-year-old former All-Star.

Buzz: Cutch Joins New Team

Per Adam Rubin and Kieran Darcy of ESPN.com, Gomez's agent Scott Boras refutes the claim that his client has a condition. Boras said:

"

He's [Gomez] in first-class physical condition without issue. We monitor our players closely. If there was ever an issue with him, we would have him seen by experts in a particular area. He has not been seen by any outside physicians this year. Other than a hamstring issue, he's been in great physical health. He plans on playing in the big leagues for the next 15 years.

"

The Mets will apparently stand firm on their findings, and this trade won't happen. Meanwhile, Gomez's Brewers teammates like Martin Maldonado seemed to adjust to the news just fine:

When something like this happens it's almost inevitable the team will have to trade the player at some point. It's now more likely to happen in the offseason.

Tyson Ross over Andrew Cashner

The San Diego Padres have so much pitching that contenders are interested in, it's a wonder that the team isn't having a better season. Per Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Tyson Ross and Andrew Cashner are drawing interest, but the Houston Astros like the former more than the latter.

The Astros already acquired left-hander Scott Kazmir from the Oakland A's last week. Adding Ross to a staff that also features American League Cy Young-candidate Dallas Keuchel would give H-Town one of the more formidable rotations in the AL.

Cashner would probably still be moved but in a smaller deal to a team that missed out on the bigger names available.

Julio Teheran Could Be Moved

The whirlwind of starting pitchers being moved could continue and include the Atlanta Braves' Julio Teheran. Per Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, the Braves are listening to offers for the 24-year-old right-hander.

Teheran has been up and down this season. He is 6-6 with a 4.71 ERA and a WHIP of 1.40. However he does have some excellent upside, and he's also under team control through 2020.

Because of those two factors, he would be an attractive option for a team looking to add depth this season and beyond.
