Andre Miller to Timberwolves: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction

Alec NathanJul 29, 2015

The Minnesota Timberwolves padded their depth at point guard by acquiring Duke's Tyus Jones in June's NBA draft, but they aren't stopping there.

According to RealGM's Shams Charania, Minnesota agreed to a deal with veteran point guard Andre Miller on July 29. Yahoo Sports' Marc J. Spears confirmed the report and added Miller is signing a one-year deal at the veteran minimum.

The team later announced the signing Monday, but it did not disclose the terms of the contract.

Salary-cap guru Bobby Marks noted Miller's deal will be worth $1.49 million, but only $947,000 will appear as a cap hit on Minnesota's balance sheet.

After getting dealt from the Denver Nuggets to the Washington Wizards during the 2013-14 season, Miller was shipped from the nation's capital to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Ramon Sessions at last season's trade deadline.

Over the course of the 2014-15 campaign, Miller averaged 4.4 points and 3.5 assists while shooting 50 percent from the field.

At 39 years old, Miller should be able to provide guidance for a young backcourt that boasts Jones, Ricky Rubio and Zach LaVine.

"He was sold on the direction of the team and the veteran leadership he could provide," Miller's agent, Andy Miller, told the Associated Press' Jon Krawczynski

And combined with the 39-year-old Kevin Garnett, the Timberwolves now have two of the league's three oldest players under contract, according to ESPN.com's Kevin Pelton

Although Miller may not be a flashy signing for the up-and-coming Timberwolves, his court vision has always been his greatest asset.

As CBS Sports' Matt Moore observed, Miller's ability to find LaVine and 2014 Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins for aerial finishes should make for some entertaining open-floor action:

With plenty of wisdom to impart to a growing core that boasts Wiggins, LaVine, Rubio and 2015 No. 1 overall pick Karl-Anthony Towns, Miller should be a natural fit alongside Garnett as a leader and mentor for a squad that's looking to make developmental strides.
