Deuce Knight Reportedly Transferring from Auburn, Landing Spots for Former 5-Star QB

Scott PolacekDec 30, 2025

Deuce Knight's time at Auburn is reportedly over after just one season.

Pete Nakos of On 3 reported Tuesday that Knight plans to enter the transfer portal when it opens. While he appeared in just two games with the Tigers, he will surely generate plenty of interest considering how highly regarded he was as a prospect.

According to 247Sports' composite rankings, Knight was a 5-star prospect, the No. 28 overall player and the No. 5 quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class.

Here are some potential landing spots for the signal-caller:

  • Ole Miss
  • Boston College
  • Colorado

Knight at least played well in his limited time in 2025, completing 17-of-25 passes for 259 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions while adding 178 yards and four touchdowns as a runner.

Much of that production, including all six of his touchdowns, came during his one start against Mercer last month. In fact, he became the first Auburn quarterback to run for four touchdowns in a game since Cam Newton's Heisman campaign in 2010.

"Deuce went out there and had fun," then-Auburn interim coach DJ Durkin told reporters. "He was smiling all morning in the hotel and out there warming up. You might wonder about that. Is he really ready? He was ready. He was playing like he was in the backyard."

It may have seemed at the time like Knight was laying an early foundation to be the quarterback of the future for Auburn, but that will not be the case.

Perhaps he will stay in the SEC, though, as Ole Miss might need a new signal-caller if Trinidad Chambliss follows former head coach Lane Kiffin to LSU after the Rebels' College Football Playoff comes to an end.

Yet Knight figures to have plenty of opportunities and could even be the one following someone if he decides to go to Boston College after the Eagles hired former Auburn assistant general manager Kenyatta Watson as its new general manager.

Possible moves from other quarterbacks across the country once the transfer portal opens could also create opportunities for Knight.

For instance, Colorado could be looking for depth at the position with Ryan Staub heading to the portal. The Buffaloes also recruited Knight when he was a prospect and have a history of interest in his play.

Whichever team lands Knight could have a quarterback to build around for next year and beyond.
