5-Star EDGE D.J. Jacobs Reveals Commitment Between Ohio State, Georgia, Miami, More

Scott PolacekDec 29, 2025

Ohio State faces Miami in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals on Wednesday and could then face Georgia in the semifinals if both teams advance.

But the Buckeyes earned a win over both programs before even taking the field.

ESPN's Eli Lederman reported Monday that highly regarded defensive edge prospect D.J. Jacobs committed to Ryan Day's program over Georgia, Miami and Texas A&M, among others.

According to 247Sports' composite rankings, Jacobs is a 5-star prospect and the No. 8 overall player, No. 1 edge rusher and No. 1 player in the state of Georgia in the recruiting class of 2027.

This is a major win for Day and Co. considering Ohio State was able to go into Georgia and land one of the top recruits in the entire class right out of SEC territory. The reigning national champions are one of the elite programs in the sport, and the best way to maintain that status is to continue having success like this on the recruiting trail.

Andrew Ivins of 247Sports' compared Jacobs to Jacksonville Jaguars pass-rusher Travon Walker in a scouting report. Walker was the No. 1 overall pick of the 2022 NFL draft and posted 10.5 sacks last season.

Ivins highlighted Jacobs' combination of "quick-twitch athleticism" and power that helps as he "constantly destroys blocks," which suggests he could be the next great pass-rusher at Ohio State.

The program has produced players such as Nick Bosa, Joey Bosa, Chase Young, Tyliek Williams, Zach Harrison, J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer in recent years. What's more, Arvell Reese could be a top draft pick from this year's team, while Caden Curry and Kenyatta Jackson are also formidable pass-rushers.

That type of consistency along the defensive front surely stands out to recruits, and Jacobs has the potential to follow in all of their footsteps.

Jacobs is an initial standout in an Ohio State 2027 class that could be among the nation's best.

It is No. 3 in the country in the early 247Sports' composite rankings and now has a 5-star anchor to continue building around as the recruiting cycle continues.
