LSU's Lane Kiffin Reacts to Old Video of Ole Miss Fans Chanting 'We Want Lane'
LSU head coach Lane Kiffin continues to show no sign of mentally moving on from his old job.
One Tigers fan reposted a video of Ole Miss fans chanting "We want Lane!" during the Rebels' 34-24 win over Florida on Nov. 15. Kiffin responded to say this was another example of what sets the SEC apart: "It just means more @SEC why it's the best conference in the country. #JustDiffernet"
Kiffin has since deleted the post.
Every fanbase in sports can be fickle, but the Oxford crowd cheering on Kiffin isn't a good example to make that point.
At the time, Kiffin's future was still up in the air. Of course Ole Miss fans would've wanted to retain a coach who was in the process of guiding the team to a 10-1 record.
Their opinions toward the 50-year-old will have evolved after he bolted for LSU. Beyond the fact he joined a conference rival, Kiffin and athletic director Keith Carter allowed this saga to drag on for multiple weeks, which was bound to make any separation more acrimonious.
The coach may have also publicly mischaracterized the extent to which Ole Miss players wanted to keep him around through the College Football Playoff. That didn't exactly help what goodwill toward him remained in Oxford:
Ole Miss kicked off the Pete Golding era by hammering Tulane 41-10 in the first round of the College Football Playoff. Should the Rebels go on a deep CFP run, the animosity for their old coach might become a little less acute.
