Johnny Manziel Apologizes for Missing College GameDay Ahead of Miami vs. Texas A&M
Former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel apologized for missing his scheduled appearance on ESPN's College GameDay ahead of the Aggies' College Football Playoff matchup against Miami on Saturday.
Texas A&M suffered a 10-3 loss and was eliminated from the CFP in the first round. Manziel also shared DMs from fans calling him out for missing his pre-game appearance.
Manziel was seen in attendance at the Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua fight in Miami on Friday night. A spokesperson for him told the Daily Mail that he became "acutely ill" late on Friday night after contracting norovirus while spending time with family earlier in the week and couldn't travel for his scheduled appearance on Saturday.
"While en route to the airport, his condition worsened, and following medical advice, he and his team made the decision to turn back," the spokesperson said.
Manziel was set to be the guest picker on College GameDay, but he was replaced by Oklahoma City Thunder guard and Texas A&M alum Alex Caruso. In his apology, he wrote some encouraging words for the Aggies while addressing his condition.
"I have no doubt Texas A&M and the Aggie football program will be in that position again," he wrote. "I'm recovering and feeling about a 3/10 going to rest up and try to get back to normal."
ESPN has not yet publicly addressed the situation. Manziel's explanation should end any speculation that he skipped out on the appearance on purpose.
